  2. Wow!
The layouts/pencils are great, as usual, but the painting is just BEAUTIFUL!

You may have mentioned in a previous post, but I am really curious: what type of paints/medium do you use to create these gorgeous beauties?

    Thanks for sharing this!

  3. Still goes down as one of my favorite paintings that you've ever done. I just love the pose, the framing, the coloring, execution, etc.

That being said, that is the first time I've seen the pencils for this and they are jaw dropping. Wow. Looks like you use a different shading technique when you know you are going to paint it. More blending with the pencils than using hatch lines, etc.

    Thanks for sharing for sure!

  5. This just reminds me of how cool it would be for DC to put out a portfolio of some of your covers like the ones they did for Bolland and Hughes.

  6. Thanks, Hiroshi. It might sound like false modesty, but I'm not in the same league with those two.

Apocolyte, these were both painted with acrylics. I did a tight pencil drawing on the gessoed board, airbrushed the "local" colors, then painted the rest with a regular sable brush. There's probably some colored pencil highlights in there as well.

  7. Well, I respectfully... and vehemently... disagree.

  8. ...amen, Hiroshi!

    Thanks, Kevin! What Hiroshi said...

  9. Wow! This is just gorgeous. I love your color work. I've been a fan of your painting since the now-classic Doctor Strange piece you did for First Team Press. Half of me wishes you would paint more, but the other half of me realizes that part of what makes them special is that you DON'T do them very often. As far as not being in the same league as Bolland or Hughes, let me just say that your modesty is exceeded only by your incredible talent! (The not-so-anonymous Eric)

  10. I wanted this original the second I saw it, but I think Jimmy beat me to it. :-(

  11. My favorite piece by Kevin ever! I've been trying to talk this one out of Jimmy for a loooong time, with zero success
